Loi Krathong

As the full moon of the twelfth lunar month (usually in mid-November) lights up the night sky, throughout the Thai kingdom, hundreds of thousands of ornately-decorated krathong or traditional banana leaf floats are set adrift in rivers and waterways in a spell-binding ritual called Loi Krathong - the 'festival of lights". This is one of the Kingdom's oldest and best-preserved traditions.

 here is how loi krathong is celebrated... our house is about 50 meters from this river - chao phraya, but the photos were taken a few kilometers downstream.

    Beautiful shot here, bai, with the full moon against the bridge's suspension cables. It's been said that it was on the full moon the first man became the Buddha, the enlightened one. On the other hand, big cities like Sydney has its emergency wards full of victims of violent crimes on any given full moon event... ;-)

    was it because he stared too much at the moon that he froze in the lotus position? well sydney - yeah, that's why my days are filled with ozi ladies wanting the full moon in their breasts. hehehehe. thanks bro!
