Scuba diving @ Bali

Ancient temple ruins, exquisitely woven Batik, intriguing Mola-molas, full moon parties at the Kuta strip, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving and surfing are some of the reasons why Bali manages to lure 2 – 3 million tourists every year. This tiny speck of an island in the midst of the swirling nutrient-rich ocean currents between the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific is a paradise for the marine life lover and the main reason why this blogger has another page to share.

The ‘tasty morsel’ for this exciting trip is a World War II shipwreck along the northeastern coast of the island. The USAT Liberty – an army transport ship shuttling supplies from Australia and the Philippines, was torpedoed by the Japanese during the war and its wreck is now encrusted in corals and other sea life and is home to a myriad species and a regular stopover for pelagic fishes.

Wreck diving is one of the diving specialties that is a brew of excitement, thrill and danger. A night dive into the wreck multiplies these ingredients a hundredfold and I was intent at getting my adrenaline pumped up here.

Before I get too wordy please click on the first photo as my eloquence is no match for what my Canon G12 & Inon S2000 can portray.
